On Saturday I did a photoshoot in Centro in the Portales on Madero and the La Jardin de Las Roses. Afterwards, I was hungry and walking around looking for “some little bit” to fill my stomach. I walked along the street that parallels the Mercado de Dulces, where I often find interesting options, but it was too early for a Saturday morning. I walked along the next street West, Calle León Guzman, and saw that there was even less available, so I thought I would walk to the next block where there a few cocina economicas I have tried.

As I was walking along, I noticed familiar banners hanging in a doorway. They said simply, “Los de Asadas.” I knew what I was looking at. I have a friend who has had several incarnations of a small asada (grill) over the years. We share a love of different beers, music and the grill. We hadn’t talked for at least a couple of years, and then probably only at food festivals. I knew where I had to go for breakfast.

I confess I had a bit from the plate in the photo I posted of Antonio’s Supreme Taco. It is a wonder. It includes marinated beef, chorizo, roasted potatoes, fresh tortillas, grilled onions and cheese. That dark beer to the left is his own, specially contracted, Porter Asada. It includes a subtle mix of chilies, garlic, and herbs along with a smoky edge that of course, goes very well with the grilled meats he offers. I’m usually not a fan of “flavored” beers – but this one is special. It certainly adds to a meal at Los de Asadas.

Los de Asadas isn’t large. It is open from 8am to 5pm – so only for breakfast and lunch. It is packed quite often, so it is wise to go at a time when crowds for regular meals are lower. It is rustic – but the service is excellent as is the food, beer and friendly staff.
