One more set from Wednesday’s jazz session. This one includes a little more context with the shots of the audience and the living room itself. At the end of the concert, several of us talked about what jazz and music like this means for people in towns like Morelia. In Mexico City, there are literally dozens of opportunities to play with other musicians in jazz and similar genre nightly. Here in Morelia, a university city with one million in the urban area, we have a lot of music programs in schools but not a lot of opportunity for musicians to get to expand their horizons by working with a range of styles and experience. Here, the musicians themselves are leading the movement – rather than waiting for bars or clubs to decide to try something other than pop. It is nice to be a part of the community.
