And if you wonder, I’m not joking at all about the “larger on the inside than the outside.” Quadras (blocks) in most Mexican cities are a lot deeper than they are typically in the US. That allows a house with a very small street-facing footprint to be much larger than it appears from the street, based on how much of the center of the block it covers. I live in a house like that with no street-facing front and several other houses inside the block we’re on. It makes those houses quite private and means they can have features that might not fit in with the UNESCO image of a colonial city.
So, don’t judge the book by its cover…
