Jazz Tense is always an interesting group to hear – always working on something a little on the edge – a little different. Their concert was a fun evening for all of us.

I realize there are a lot of black and white photos in this set, but that isn’t all you are seeing. There is also toning including duotones, posterization and what appears to be a negative version, but it isn’t. “In Negative Space” isn’t actually a negative version of the original, it is actually a tone shift using the capabilities that come with using a digital color original. The colors in the trumpet horn were masked to retain them while the magenta, purple and blues in the rest of the photo are converted to tones of white and grey – but they would have been darker in the original scene. It’s complicated, but after the tones were converted in Lightroom, the final was posterized. I love the result and all of these because they represent the way that jazz works with tones and rhythm bringing something special to an evening like this.

I hope you enjoy these artistic flights I’m taking because there will be lots more.
