I understand the issue that people here in Mexico and in cities around the world have with tagging. Just like in the US, we have many young people who use a spray can to make their mark as they come of age. It has become an eyesore and blight, marring neighborhoods and producing divisions between people, young and old.

In this case, however, I find a work of art, a statement with humor and technical expertise. Because this particular wall has been used for many years for this type of mural, I know it is done with the permission of the owner. Because it is not painted over until it falls into disrepair, I know that the community at least accepts it, even if they do not fully approve.

Art makes waves. If it is successful, there will be detractors, there will be those who absorb new views of their world, and those who will walk by, head down, seeing nothing more than the ground in front of their feet.

So be it.
