More than a week ago now, I was coming home from a concert at the Casa de Cultura and I needed to take a few photos for a private exhibition I was giving to let my friends know something about the techniques I use. I really only intended to take a couple of photos, but of course, when I get my camera out at night – I end up taking a few more than I intended. The black and whites in this series of four are fairly straight-forward (for me at least) – but the last one needs a bit of explaining. It is tone-mapped and then run through a fractal program that lets me add some detail in different ways. I really didn’t intend for this photo to come out quite like this, but when I saw this particular variation, I just had to use it. It reminds me of some of the work Disney Studios did at various times. All the detail in the scrollwork, the leaves, the wall is generated within the original photo based on a series of variations I feed into the program.
