Gadjo is a great group from Guanajuato. They’ve been focused on some very respectful renditions of gypsy jazz, the music of Django Reinhardt and the Hot Jazz Movement for some time – but now they are branching out a bit, taking the style to new places. They are a lot of fun to see and it is obvious they have a lot of fun playing together.

The photo, “Hombre Manouche – Gypsy Soul” is a bit of an homage to a hard working musician, Cesar Gonzalez, putting him in the style of a graphic novel superhero using tone-mapping. I intentionally shot from a low angle and kept a tight frame to increase the tension in the image. I pushed the vibrancy and contrast and in the process I was rewarded with the red-edged lightning bolt on the door behind him. A bit of luck. Cesar was working so hard he was sweating on a fairly cool evening. Everyone of these guys worked hard in this concert – and it showed.

I have another set to put up – look for them tomorrow.
