Is there a genre, a category of music for what Sherele does? Well, no – not really. Klezmer, jazz, polka, Eastern European, gypsy – all apply but none of them define the music we heard Friday. But, the words energetic, happy, humor, rhythmic and warm all applied to what we felt as Natalie and her group from Guadalajara played for us. The full, round sound of her clarinet was haunting. It reached out to us from generations of people who have enjoyed the feelings this music arrouses. Above all – they are just plain fun to listen to. That’s enough reason to search them out when you can.
