When I pick a word or short statement to put under a photo, it is a very careful choice, although sometimes it may not seem so. I have reached the point where I feel I have achieved a level of control over what I want a photo to convey. I can control the tones, mood, style contast and I do – selectively – to tell a story. In the case of the photos of jazz musicians in particular, I play along with them, finding the beat and chords and giving back my own interpretation of the line. For those that think the photos are perhaps less sharp or technically perfect than they could be – please consider that if I have control over such things as shutter speed, ISO, depth of field, etc. then these must be intentional choices. Indeed they are.
