This is the first test of the Dreamspeed Content Delivery Network (CDN) for delivery of the photos in this post. I’m using a WordPress plugin for Dreamspeed that is still in the testing phase but works very well thanks to Mika Epstein (the plugin developer and all around smart person). The plugin itself is still in beta, but based on my tests – I believe it will be ready for release to the WordPress.org plugin directory soon.

One thing that caused a problem – I was using CloudFlare. The redirection of the domain to CloudFlare cause the alias for the photos on the CDN to not resolve. That is a bit of technobabble but it will be helpful to anyone trying the same thing. There are workarounds that will make CloudFlare more useful but frankly, I have found their service to be gradually less useful over time. I may go back after I migrate all photos to Dreamspeed, but right now I don’t believe it will be needed.

The next step is the migration of all the photos on the blog to Dreamspeed. I expect that to cause some time outs because it is a lot of work for the server. But in the end, once it is complete, the site should be much faster and photos, which is what you come for – will load faster.

Let’s see what happens… 🙂
